Tub-to-Shower Conversions in Longmont, CO

If the bathtub in your bathroom mostly collects dust, a tub-to-shower conversion turns that space into a shower you'll actually use. It's one of the most requested projects we do in Longmont, especially in homes from the 1970s through the 1990s where a tub-shower combo was standard in every bathroom.

What a conversion involves

  1. Tub removal. We remove the tub and surround and inspect the framing and subfloor. Old tub surrounds often hide water damage.
  2. Plumbing changes. The drain is relocated or resized for a shower, and the valve is updated or moved to a more comfortable height.
  3. Shower base. A low-profile pan or a tiled mortar bed, sloped correctly to the drain.
  4. Waterproofing. A continuous waterproof membrane over the walls and floor before any tile or panels go up.
  5. Walls, glass and finishes. Tile or panel walls, a niche for storage, and a glass door or panel.

Should you keep one tub?

If the home has another bathroom with a tub, converting the primary bath is usually a smart move. If this is your only tub and you have young kids or plan to sell soon, it's worth talking through first. We'll give you an honest opinion.

What it costs

Most tub-to-shower conversions fall within our standard packages: Bronze from $6,500 (acrylic walls, semi-frameless glass), Silver from $10,000 (porcelain tile, frameless glass) and Gold from $16,000 (stone slab, custom enclosures). Your price depends on plumbing changes, what we find behind the old tub and the finishes you choose.

Tub-to-shower FAQ

How long does a conversion take?

The timeline depends on the finishes and what we find once the tub comes out. We'll give you a schedule with your estimate.

Can the new shower have a low threshold?

Yes. Low-threshold bases are a common choice and make the shower easier to step into. A fully curbless shower may need floor work; see walk-in and curbless showers.

Will removing the tub hurt resale value?

Buyers generally like having at least one tub in the home. Converting a secondary tub while keeping one elsewhere is rarely a problem.
